• OVERVIEW

In an ideal world, online education or entertainment and information video, is delivered through a robust, reliable, low-cost fixed or wireless broadband service network.

However, in many places around the globe, these types of networks are unavailable.

COSatellite Solutions, a Connected Life Solutions affiliate, has solved this problem by being able to reliably and cost-affordably enabling access to online education and entertainment and information content to these underserved areas of the world.

We do this by marrying the: innovative ‘create once and publish to any learning management system’ platform (Curriki); with a robust satellite and IP network content delivery software (Quadrille); the reach of satellites and/or last mile wireless wi-fi technologies; and an intelligent edge media gateway devices (Noovo).

This end-to-end solution enables individuals living in these remote areas of the world, to learn and/or be entertained and informed, without they requiring an Internet connection on their smart device, just like those individuals that have broadband access.

  • ONLINE EDUCATION

          Create once, publish anywhere.

In the past, educators desiring to offer online education have had to select a learning management system (LMS), and then digitize/create the online curriculum using the format that is specific to the LMS.

Through the COSatellite Solutions and Curriki partnership, educators and/or educational technologists, can now easily digitize traditional education content once utilizing the CurrikiStudio offering, and be able to publish the digitized content to the LMS of their choice.

Today, the CurrikiStudio solution is compatible with Google Classroom, Canvas, Moodle 3.9 and above, Talent LMS, and Docebo, with others coming soon, or can be integrated with the LMS you are currently utilizing.

In the context of COSatellite Solutions, the digitized content is synchronized, using the content delivery software, with the LMS that is actually residing at edge media gateway servers, that are connected to the satellite or last mile wireless network.

This innovative approach is what allows students to access the delivered education content using their smart device and the Wi-Fi network that is created by the edge media gateway server, and experience learning as if they were connected to the Internet.

Students, using a basic tablet - could even be a Chromebook, and no internet connection, connect to the edge media gateway server devices via Wi-Fi that have the educational content delivered onto them. In the most remote areas, a return data channel returns the statistics captured on student engagement and progress to the Curriki Cloud.

In all cases, a low bandwidth return data channel - could be satellite, fixed network, mobile, wireless - is used to capture the statistics associated with the engagement of the student.

  • ENTERTAINMENT AND INFORMATION

          Upload once, deliver anywhere.

In the past, content owners desiring to offer their content have had to select a content management system (CMS), digitize the media assets, and then contract with content delivery networks (CDNs) so that users can stream their content over the Internet.

Through the COSatellite Solutions and Noovo partnership, content owners can now easily manage and deliver their already digitized content to users living in remote areas that otherwise would not have access.

In the context of COSatellite Solutions, the digitized content is synchronized using a content delivery software, with the edge media gateway servers, that are connected to the satellite or last mile wireless network.

This innovative approach is what allows users to access delivered entertainment and information content, using their smart device and the Wi-Fi network that is created by the edge media gateway server, to stream the entertainment and information content as if they were connected to the Internet.

Individuals, using a smartphone, tablet, or other screens, and no internet connection, connect to the edge media gateway server devices via Wi-Fi that have the entertainment and information content delivered onto them. In the most remote areas, a return data channel returns the statistics captured related to content engagement.

Gathering Statistics: In all cases, a low bandwidth return data channel - could be satellite, fixed network, mobile, wireless - is used to deliver the statistics.

  • WHY WE DO IT

Most of the locations for which the satellite solution is intended, either an Internet connection is not affordable, is non-existent, or is of poor quality.

In some cases, last mile wireless networks are starting to solve the problem, but, to deliver rich content to anyone, everywhere, the use of a satellite is the most price competitive and quickly deployable method.

There is a need to make educational, entertainment and information content available to the 3 billion+ people living in the most remote parts of the world.

By using a satellite or a last mile wireless network to deliver any type of content, the solution enables students and individuals to have a really cool, multimedia experience, in a remote location, with the lowest possible cost, and with the highest potential for user engagement and success.

Utilizing our innovative approach, online education, as well as entertainment and information choices, especially to those in the remote parts of the world, bridges the digital divide and has the potential to enhance the quality of life of many.
